SAFFRON GRAS STATUS

* Ingredients with GRAS status are exempt from the usual food additive tolerance for food additive requirements (1).

* FDA's recognition of saffron as GRAS that substance added to food is considered safe by experts under its intended use.

United States regulations

In the United States, saffron was permanently recognised for food use. It is recognised to be exempt from additive certification required for artificial additives.
